There are only a handful of places on earth where a freediver can walk off the beach and be at 30 metres within a couple of minutes of surface swimming. The Blue Hole is one of them, and it's the reason Dahab has become the sport's most concentrated training hub.

Calm water, most of the year

Unlike open-ocean training sites, the Blue Hole itself is a sheltered lagoon-like formation, which means flat, current-free water for the vast majority of the year — ideal for the repetition depth training actually requires.

A built-in community

Because so many schools and athletes train here, the Blue Hole has become a genuine freediving community rather than just a dive site — you'll regularly find world-record holders training on the same line as first-week beginners.
